Microsoft to pay $10,000 to woman for forced Windows 10 upgrade

Windows upgrading

Microsoft has agreed to pay $10,000 to a Californian woman after an automatic Windows 10 upgrade rendered her machine unusable.

The woman, Teri Goldstein said her computer updated itself to Windows 10 without her permission, leaving her unable to run her business using the machine.

Microsoft said it dropped its appeal to save on legal costs.

Since Windows 10 was released, Microsoft has been aggressively pushing the operating system to its Windows 7 and 8.1 user base, using ways that people can feel they’re being forced to upgrade. Many people chose not to upgrade because of compatibility issues, privacy concerns or simply do not want it.

Previously, the “forced” upgrade attacked a weather report as well as a gamer doing his live stream. Do you think there will be more forced upgrade stories before the free upgrade expires on July 29th? Let us know in the comments.
