Gmail Password Leak Update

WordPress is totally awesome! If you are looking for a good website provider, choose WordPress!

The WordPress.com Blog

This week, a group of hackers released a list of about 5 million Gmail addresses and passwords. This list was not generated as a result of an exploit of WordPress.com, but since a number of emails on the list matched email addresses associated with WordPress.com accounts, we took steps to protect our users.

We downloaded the list, compared it to our user database, and proactively reset over 100,000 accounts for which the password given in the list matched the WordPress.com password. We also sent email notification of the password reset containing instructions for regaining access to the account. Users who received the email were instructed to follow these steps:

  1. Go to WordPress.com.
  2. Click the “Login” button on the homepage.
  3. Click on the link “Lost your password?”
  4. Enter your WordPress.com username.
  5. Click the “Get New Password” button.

In general, it’s very important that passwords be unique for each account. Using the same…

Gamenology is now 1 year old!

Hey Gamenologers!

It has now been 1 year since we launched our website to the world. We are really proud to achieve one year of success. This would have never happened if it weren’t for you guys. And we would like to thank you so much for being fans of our site.

Now that Gamenology is one year old, we have made some plans that will change Gamenology’s future a little bit. Here’s what we are going to do:

We are going to abandon the following services.

Techno Spotlight Playlist Recommendation Service

If you were following Gamenology since it’s very beginning last year, you may already know that we have a YouTube Channel called Techno Spotlight. Our aim for this was to recommend videos using playlists which were made on our channel about various topics of Gaming and Technology. However, while the channel went well, most of the time we didn’t update the channel at all with new videos and new playlists. Now keep in mind this was not due to laziness, it was the fact that the team were looking for new ways to recommend videos to you all. We all know that YouTube is primarily for sharing videos, not really for suggesting videos in playlists. And due to how social media became a big change in how we use the internet, we had realised that a good way to recommend YouTube videos was via Twitter.

When we launched our Twitter page back in March it became a sudden hit to the public. We got 10 followers in within 5 days and more people share videos using Twitter. That is why we are now announcing that we are going to abandon our YouTube Channel. While it was successful, with 34 subscribers as of this time of writing this post, we feel that Twitter is the way to go.

What’s going to happen to the channel you may ask? You may be wondering if the channel will be deleted. That was our plan, but since we embedded some of our playlists in some of our older posts, we feel it would be wise to not shut down the channel, as the playlists would be deleted and the embeds on our older posts would be rendered useless. However, we are going to remove all public links to the channel, and adjusting some of the channel settings so you can still enjoy the content we recommended in the past.

As we said before, we feel that Twitter is the place for sharing so if you are looking for new videos suggested by us, please follow our Twitter @Gamenology1. Our Twitter is not only for videos, but for keeping up to date with tech news wherever you are.

We hope you are satisfied by this change. If you liked how we recommended videos in the past, we apologise for changing our mind, but Twitter is the best place for sharing content, and with so many readers around the world, it’s very difficult to tailor content and services for everyone.

Now with that out of the way, we are also going to change how Gamenology will keep you up to date in the future.

WordPress and Twitter

In the beginning, when we launched our site, our aim is primarily keeping you up to date via this site. But as time went on, we didn’t update you with posts we promised to post about, and other factors.

We are a small tech news site, hoping to get bigger and trust me, it was difficult keeping you up to date by writing long and lengthy posts. We started off by reblogging stuff from other sites, then wrote our own posts and promised to write some posts, when we haven’t. We would like to apologise for not keeping you up to date and waiting forever for new posts, when we haven’t. We know you guys were wanting for more, and the team tried to find time to write posts, when it turned out, it was difficult. So that’s why we are announcing today a big change to this site.

Now don’t worry, we are not going to shut it down or abandon it, but we have decided from now on this site will only post content that is considered important. For example E3 and other press conferences are important, as well as big phone announcements like the HTC One M8. Now where will we frequently keep you up to date with the latest tech and games?

You guessed it! Twitter!

As we all know, Twitter is for posting content in just a few words. And it has become one of the world’s biggest social networking sites, with over a million tweets a day. You may have noticed when we launched our Tiwtter, we frequently updated you with great new content. It worked well for the team. So now we have decided that our primary source of keeping you up to date is Twitter. As news gets posted, we get informed more quicker than usual and update you as soon as possible. We hope that we will keep you up to date using Twitter most of the time, but at the same time, we will continue using this WordPress site to write important articles, as, we all know want to be updated all the time. You can keep up to date right now, just follow @Gamenology1 and prepare to be updated.

We hope you are satisfied by this change. If you prefer this site as our primary source, we apologise, but with such a small team, it’s hard to write posts for every single thing.

And that is basically it! But before you stop reading this, we would like to say that we have reached over 1,500 views on this site, over 20 followers on Twitter, and over 30 subscribers on YouTube. And this would not be possible if it weren’t for you guys. We would like to give a big thank you to all who followed this site, and we promise as time goes on, we will get even more better. Also we would like to thank WordPress. If it weren’t for the amazing guys at WordPress, all this wouldn’t be possible.

We have some more plans coming your way! Including the Gamenology app (which has been in the works for a very long time now) and Gamenology’s presence on other social networks like Facebook and Google+. So stay tuned to this site, and our Twitter for our future plans.

That’s basically it for this post! Again we would like to say Thank You for being fans of Gamenology and we hope to keep you up to date for the next few years.

Gamenology Team 🙂

Reset the Net

Gamenology is becoming more secure… Find out more in this post.

The WordPress.com Blog

A year ago today, we joined the world in shock on learning that governments were spying on internet users around the world. Tapping internet service providers’ undersea cables, intentionally and secretly weakening encryption products,  surreptitiously collecting everything from call metadata to photos sent over the internet by US citizens — nothing was off limits.

Just as troubling as the revelations themselves is the fact that since last summer, little if anything has changed. Despite a lot of rhetoric, our three branches of government in the United States have not made many concrete steps toward truly protecting citizens from unchecked government surveillance.

Automattic has been a strong supporter of efforts to reform government surveillance. We’ve supported reform legislation in Congress, and participated in the Day We Fight Back, earlier this year. More importantly, we aim to make our own legal processes for securing the information our users entrust to us…

Welcome to Gamenology

Welcome to Gamenology, a brand new website that provides gaming and technology in one place.

We are brand new so we need time to get started. As you can see the website is not fully ready yet. We are new to WordPress so we need time to get used to it before it’s officially open. We are working very hard around the clock to get things done fast, so you might see random stuff going all over the website. You may not know how this happens, we have a secret Admin Panel to do all this cool stuff 😛

We also have a YouTube Channel which we will provide more information about this after a few days.

We hope you enjoy our new website and we hope you subscribe and visit us often! Don’t worry, we will improve over time, things are evolving you know 😀

Thank you for your support.
